NHS Apprenticeship Application Stages — Everything You Need to Know

Salary: £27,000–£30,000Length: 3–4 yearsAcceptance: 4–7%

Here is every stage of the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme (Degree Apprenticeship) application process — what happens, in what order, and what you need to do to pass each one.

1

Online Application Form

Complete your personal details, academic grades, and motivational questions. This is where you answer why NHS and why this programme. Application window: Autumn — typically opens October for the following September start.

Prep tip

Answer motivational questions specifically — not generically. A specific reason for choosing NHS over a generic 'I want to work in the sector' answer makes an immediate difference.

2

Online Assessments

Verbal, numerical, and situational judgement tests — all timed

Prep tip

Practice with real providers (SHL, Korn Ferry, Cubiks) before the test date. Don't attempt on a mobile or slow connection.

3

Video Interview

Pre-recorded video interview focused on NHS values and leadership behaviours

Prep tip

Record yourself answering a practice question and watch it back. Fix filler words, posture, and pacing before the real thing.

4

Assessment Centre

Held at a NHS office. Typically includes: Group exercise, Prioritisation exercise, Competency interview, Presentation.

Prep tip

Prepare STAR stories for all competencies before the day. The assessment starts when you walk in — be professional with everyone you meet.
